the purple martens back from sabbatical
with stickers on their wings that read mexico, cuba
beliz, have you found jesus, argentina
and they cling to the trees like monkeys
crying hi hi hi hi hi.

and on the lawn
the clover waves its little hands
like an idiot cousin.

anyone who says
it was my fault wasn’t
there, or doesn’t know
